How to make your kitchen sparkle like It is new

Time to get to business Victoria. Let’s tackle the deep clean of the kitchen today. There are so many spaces and items in the kitchen that need a deep cleaning.

Before we get started you will need a handful of clean rags, a bucket, a cleaning solution that also works as a degreaser, and a scrub cleaner. I highly recommend PINK cleaning solution and PINK scrub. You will also need a disinfectant such as oxygen bleach, or a peroxide mixture. Fill your bucket with hot water and your disinfectant. Follow directions on the container for ratios.

  1. Start at the kitchen sink. Before getting started, spray down your stove, hood fan, back splash and cupboards around the stove. Look around for any cupboards that are exceptionally greasy or have globs of spaghetti sauce dripping down them.
  2. Turn the self clean on your oven. Make sure it is empty before you turn it on. If you don’t have a self-cleaning oven, spray with some cleaning solution such as PINK solution. Spray it a few times over the next couple hours to start softening up any grime.
  3. Grab your wet cloth and start above the sink. Wipe down the upper cupboards, backsplash, counter, lower cupboards, and kickboard. Do one section at a time and then move to the right and continue starting from the top and working your way down.
  4. When you hit the microwave it may be easiest to microwave a wet cloth for 30 seconds. This will make cleaning the microwave much easier. Scrub the inside and outside of the microwave. For stainless steel appliances scrub with a cloth in the direction of the grains and then dry in the direction of the grains. If this doesn’t work then repeat. Grease can take a couple of scrubs to get off. Do not get frustrated and use a sponge or abrasive cleaner. You will scratch your stainless steel.
  5. Don’t forget on top of the fridge. If you are doing inside the fridge you will have to take everything out, take the fridge apart, clean it, put it back together and put everything back inside. In a different blog post I will show you how to take apart and put different fridges back together.
  6. For the oven, if you have self cleaned your oven and it is cool, take a wet rag and just wipe it out. If it did not come completely clean in some places, a little steel wool will get the rest off. If you don’t have a self-cleaning oven and you have presoaked it for a least a couple of hours, grab the PINK scrub and scrub the oven clean with steel wool. It will take a few minutes but it can be done. I will make a video on how to take an oven apart and clean it properly including in between the glass in a different blog post.
  7. Don’t forget to vacuum and wash the floors behind/under the fridge and stove. When you pull the stove out you will also need to clean the sides of the stove and the sides of the counter.
  8. For the glass top stove soak in PINK cleaning solution. Lightly scrub with a cloth. Do not use anything abrasive on your glass top stove. Do not use oven cleaner on your glass top stove. If it isn’t coming as clean as you would like, soak it and clean it more often than you have been. Do not scrub with lots of pressure. You can break the glass.
  9. For a gas stove soak in PINK cleaner. For the racks you can soak them and scrub with a scrubby or scrub brush. For any other baked on food soak in PINK cleaner. Lightly scrub with a cloth. Do not use steel wool or anything too abrasive as it can be scratched.
  10. For a regular element stove, take the elements out and take out the inserts. Soak those and then clean with steel wool and PINK scrub cleaner. You may use a scrubby or sponge. Use a sponge and soak the stove top in PINK cleaner.
  11. For the back part of your stove, take the temperature knobs off. They come right off, just pull straight towards you. Spray with PINK cleaner and scrub the back of the stove with a cloth. Do not use anything abrasive.
  12. Soak the hood fan in PINK cleaner. Scrub with a cloth. Do not use anything abrasive. Especially if it is stainless steel. It may need to soak for a while. You may have to soak it more than once if it is bad. Take the hood fan filter out. Soak it in PINK cleaner and hot water. If it is really greasy, you may have to soak over night. These are cheap and easy to replace but they do come clean easily if you clean them twice a year.
  13. Clean the front of the stove and the front of the bottom drawer. If your stove has a warming drawer in the bottom, make sure you clean that out as well.
  14. The top of the fridge and cupboards may need to be soaked if they are very greasy and not cleaned often.
  15. Work your way around the kitchen not skipping any walls, baseboards, windows, window frames, knick knacks, shelves etc.
  16. Don’t skip cleaning the toaster. Unplug the toaster from the wall before cleaning. Pull out the bottom tray and clean it out. Wipe down the outside of the toaster. Replace the tray. If it has lots of crumbs that aren’t in the tray you may have to shake it out as well.
  17. Don’t skip cleaning the coffee pot. Every coffee pot comes apart differently but take the filter out, clean out the inside, clean the pot with PINK cleaner or baking soda. Clean the outside of the entire coffee maker. It is a good idea to run a cycle through the coffee pot with just hot water or with a cleaner of your choice. If you do use a cleaning agent, run water through at least twice after before making coffee.
  18. Don’t forget to clean the kettle, outside and inside as well as base.
  19. If you are planning to take everything out of the cupboards, clean the cupboards and replace everything back inside, then expect to be in the kitchen for most of the day. Make sure to do the cupboard that holds your garbage can. Take the garbage out and soak the inside of the garbage can if it needs it. Clean any walls, doors, floor that have spills from the garbage can.
  20. Don’t forget to wipe down the entire island, any stools, or chairs that you may have at the island including the legs and backs of the stools and chairs.
  21. Once you are done in the kitchen, vacuum and hand wash the kitchen. Mopping the kitchen will not be good enough as it is difficult to properly clean around and under the edges of the cupboards. Move all stools, chairs and garbage cans to clean the floor underneath them.
  22. When you are done cleaning the floor you can clean the sink. Take a sponge and PINK scrub. Clean the sink, drain, taps, plugs and all around the taps. Rinse the cleaner off and dry and shine with a dry cloth.

At this point you should have the cleanest kitchen on the block!
